ROBOFEEDER
My horse Narayan is 27 years old and has no bottom teeth. This makes ensuring he gets enough food into him a day difficult, as he cannot grind hay or chew grass. Well, he tries but he just gums it, bless him.
I give him all his daily food stuffs in mush form (3% of his body weight in dry matter) - mainly beet pulp and grass nuts. As he does not live with me at home I can only see him twice a day, I wanted a way to give him an extra feed while I was not there.
I looked at a range of automatic feeders, but most of them are A- made for stables and he is an outdoor/ large pen type of horse and B - made for grain feed/ dry feed. I even emailed a few of the manufacturers to see if they can take wet mush feed like beet pulp, nope. It messes with the hopper they say.
Sigh.
So I spoke with my father about the simplest method of dispensing food and we came up with the idea of a unit with a lid that can open.
Place the bucket in the unit, close the lid and it will open at a certain time. Simple.
Well my magician of a father made just that.
